Eon is proud of this one: his CASIO Tough Solar watch. It's tough, waterproof, and — the coolest part — solar-powered. Let's unpack what each of those really means.
The big idea: powered by light
Most watches run on a tiny battery you eventually replace. Not this one:
Solar power turns light into electricity. A little solar panel on the watch face soaks up light — sunlight or even room light — and uses it to run the watch and charge it up. As long as it sees light, it keeps going. No battery to swap, ever.
That's the same technology as the big solar panels on rooftops, shrunk down to fit on your wrist.
Tough and waterproof
The name says "Tough," and that's a promise:
Tough means it's built to survive bumps and drops without breaking. Waterproof means water can't get inside to damage it. Together they make a watch you can actually live in — playing, splashing, adventuring.
The backlight
Eon shows off the light — "if I turn on my torch… this is strong!"
A backlight glows behind the screen so you can read the time in the dark. One button press, and a watch that needs light to charge can also make its own light to be read. Clever both ways.
Try it
Find something solar-powered (a calculator, a garden light, a solar watch). Cover its panel with your hand for a moment, then uncover it. Watch how it wakes up with light — that's solar power working right in front of you.
